Louisianans relax at Holly Beach for 4th of July

HOLLY BEACH, LA (KPLC-TV) – Many Louisianans are spending their Fourth of July holiday weekend at Holly Beach in Cameron Parish.

Darla Leger brought her family to the beach on Saturday. Leger said her parents would bring her to the beach when she was growing up. Now that she brings her own kids, Leger cannot help but think about how much the beach has changed, especially after recent storms.

"The camps were filled," said Leger. "It's changed a lot and it just makes me want to cry."

Leger said despite the storms it has survived, she believes Holly Beach would be devastated if oil somehow made its way to Cameron Parish.

"I'm just hoping the oil does not come this way. I don't think Holly Beach could handle it,"  she said.

With no oil or hurricanes on the horizon, Leger and others who were at Holly Beach on Saturday, said they just planned to enjoy a clean, oil-free beach, while celebrating the Fourth of July with family and friends.
