LAFAYETTE, LA (KPLC-TV) – The U.S. Marshals are on the hunt for a Lafayette man, charged with international kidnapping.

Michael Blasingame, 28, is charged in federal court with International Parental Kidnapping and Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution. Authorities said Blasingame kidnapped his son, three-year-old Eitan Blasingame, in March of 2008, when he was supposed to return the child to his mother in Plano, Texas.

Instead, Blasingame fled the country with the boy. Over the last two years, U.S. Marshals said Blasingame and the kidnapped boy have traveled to Mexico, Germany, Yemen, Ethiopia, Thailand and Malaysia.

"They could be anywhere, but the evidence is suggesting they're between Thailand and Malaysia," said Corey Britt, Deputy U.S. Marshal. "Typically, we have these cases wrapped up in a short period of time, but Michael is obviously a smart guy."

The Marshals arrested Michael Blasingame's mother, Renee Blasingame, 51, at her Lafayette home Friday morning. She is being charged in Plano, Texas for Interference with a Child Custody Order. Authorities also believe she knew of Michael's whereabouts at one time and may have assisted him with the kidnapping.

The U.S. Marshals held a press conference Friday afternoon in Lafayette to discuss the case.

Meanwhile, the child's mother, Diana Huynh, is holding out hope that her son, whom she hasn't seen since February 2008, will be found.

"Someone out there knows something," said Huynh. "I'm hoping someone will help…say something."

Anyone with information is asked to call the U.S. Marshals in Lafayette at (337) 262-6792 or in Plano, Texas at (214) 705-9850 ext 223.
