LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The Fourth of July is just around the corner, and many people will enjoy fireworks and barbeque, among other festivities.  But since celebration goes hand in hand with alcohol, the authorities will be on patrol heavily this holiday weekend.

Sheriff Tony Mancuso from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office says, "our goal is we don't want people to drink and drive, simple as that...that's why we been so aggressive on our efforts in regards to D-W-I."

Police have a new tool to catch impaired drivers. The "no refusal law" means if you are stopped and you're suspected of being impaired, you would have to take to a blood test.  "The officer that's investigating that particular subject will prepare an affidavit and submit it to a judge and request a search warrant for body fluids from that particular subject," says District Attorney John Derosier.

Law enforcement from all around SWLA will be working overtime to make sure the highways are not die-ways.
