LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Two people now stand accused in the weekend hit and run that left a Lake Charles apartment complex in shambles. It was Saturday night that a Ford Expedition crashed through the gate of the Sunlight Manor Apartments and smashed into a staircase. No one was injured, but two residents were stranded for more than an hour. Police say while the suspect drove away - hours later they were on their trail.

"Shortly after the incident - sometimes people call and report their vehicles as being stolen and it just gives us a lead. We worked it as being a stolen vehicle possibly to may be involved in this and after talking to the woman and owner of the car she admitted her husband wrecked the vehicle," said Sgt. Mark Kraus.

The driver Dwayne Thomas was issued a citation for hit and run and driving under suspension. Formal charges were also brought against his wife - Marquetta Thomas - for filing a false police report.
