Lake Charles apartment recovering after hit and run

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A hit and run left a Lake Charles apartment complex in shambles Saturday night.

The hit and run occurred at Sunlight Manor Apartments off Winterhaulter Street at around 9:00.

"I was sitting at my dining room table finishing my meal, and I heard a loud boom. When I opened my door, the whole stairwell was gone," said Emma, who lives in the apartment building where the hit and run occurred.

The loud boom was the sound of a car crashing through a staircase of one of the buildings.

Despite the damage done to the apartment, what's most important for the residents is that nobody was hurt during the hit and run.

"I'm just so happy that nobody got hurt. No children, you know, nobody was playing around like they usually play around," said Carl Frank, another resident of the complex.

While no injuries occurred, those that are temporarily without a place to stay, hope whoever caused this damaged is punished.

"It's good that we weren't in there and nobody got hurt, it's just the principle part about it, you know.  Clothes just everywhere, food everywhere for our babies. I just hope they find out who did it and put a stop to it or something," said Kenyetta Peters, another resident.

Lake Charles Police are still investigating the hit and run, and have no new leads as of yet.
