LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Four weeks with no game to prepare for.
That's what the Swashbucklers are dealing with.
Southwest Louisiana's indoor football team is now in the middle of their fourth bye week. They have one regular season game left before the playoffs begin. The Lafayette Wildcatters will lock up with the Bucs in downtown Lake Charles. That matchup will be played on Saturday, June 26th at the Lake Charles Civic Center.
Swashbucklers head coach Michael Warren says a fourth bye week is tough, but his team needs it right now to get ready for their last test of the regular season.
"We've had a lot of them but this one right here is very important for us," Warren said. "It gives us time to really, really get down and dirty and prepare for Lafayette. As a team, we really need this one. We really, really need this one. We really can use this game as a bridge builder for the playoffs."
The Bucs are 0-2 this season against the Wildcatters, with both losses coming at the Cajundome in Lafayette. Swashbucklers defensive back Brandon Thomas says his team has not played the Wildcatters at home yet, and that makes a huge difference.
"I don't necessarily think that they have our number," Thomas said. "Sometimes we break down when we play away and we don't play like we usually play at home. So for me to say that they have our number, I really don't think so but right now, they're on a high to where they feel that they can beat us at any time."
Louisiana has already clinched a playoff spot, despite having a 5-5 overall record. They will more than likely play on the road for the entire length of their postseason run.
