ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - A 16-year-old accused of stabbing an 8-year-old boy to death has been indicted for first-degree murder.
A state grand jury Thursday formally charged Trevor Reese on Thursday. His arraignment is set for June 24.
A judge ruled earlier that Reese, who turns 17 on July 31, can be tried as an adult in the case. Because of his age, however, he will not face the possibility of the death penalty if convicted.
West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's deputies arrested the teen last Thursday and he's being held without bond.
Reese is accused of killing Jackson Attuso, of Clinton, in West Feliciana Parish on June 10. According to authorities, Reese stabbed Attuso to death while the young boy was riding his bike through the woods with his mother.
