CPSO to conduct DWI checkpoints and roving detail

The following is a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:

Lake Charles, LA – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office will be conducting two DWI checkpoints and a roving DWI detail this week at undisclosed locations in the parish.

These checkpoints will target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics.

A roving DWI detail consists of extra deputies, in addition to regular scheduled patrol deputies, patrolling the parish strictly looking for impaired drivers.

They have proven to be very effective in discouraging citizens from driving while impaired and people are more likely to designate a driver when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted.

These checkpoints and roving DWI detail are funded by Project KNOW, a grant awarded to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Office of Juvenile Justice Services.  This grant is being used to target underage drinking.
