LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) – More people in the Lake Area are turning back the hands of time without going under the knife, by electing to have nonsurgical procedures.

Dr. Maureen Olivier, a dermatologist in Lake Charles, stated, "Over the years, now that the products have gotten better, and the results are better, and the down time's a whole lot less, we have a huge increase in people seeking cosmetic help."

People like Mary Fontenot, who routinely gets cosmetic injections.

"As you age, you're going to notice that you have facial changes and there's so many things that are out there today that can help you," said Fontenot.

Among the cosmetic injections are Botox, the most popular, the newly FDA approved Dysport, and commonly used fillers. Botox and Dysport, or neurotoxins, are used to smooth out wrinkles in the forehead, between the brows, and the corners of the eyes.

Fillers are mostly used to enhance the lower face, like lips and around the corner of the mouth. Botox, Dysport and fillers can safely be used together.

"Being able to combine both the neurotoxins and the filling materials will definitely give your best results," said Olivier.

Results can last for months, and sometimes show up almost as quickly as the procedure itself, which can typically be done over a lunch break.

Olivier stated, "Fillers, the results are immediate, with neurotoxins they can see the results as soon as two to three days, but greater results can be achieved in 30 days."

While fillers may require a little down time , after receiving Botox or Dysport, usually you can pick up and go.

"You just add a little makeup and take off, and no one even knows that you have them," said

Olivier stated, "Most of the patients doing these sort of procedures, they just want the subtle, happier look that these products can give them."
