Fire destroys a home in Dequincy

DEQUINCY, LA (KPLC) - The Ward Six Fire Department was called to a house fire on Thursday, June 3 around 11:00 p.m. The home was located on the corner of Highway 389 & Monk Dickerson Road in DeQuincy. Upon our arrival, flames were venting through the roof of the home. 

Mutual Aid assistance was requested and received from the following fire departments; DeQuincy, Oretta, Houston River, Gordon, Fields, Westlake. 

Despite the efforts of more than 40 firefighters on scene, the home, which was only a year old, was a total loss.

Firefighters remained on scene until 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning, and we were called back to the location at 9:30 a.m. to extinguish a small fire which had rekindled.

Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

    It's not unusual to hear complaints about the U.S. Postal Service in our area. The latest comes from a neighborhood off Nelson Road where residents say they no longer get daily delivery. "Whether snow, sleet or rain or whatever it   should be delivered," said Terry Bellard, who lives at Smith Village mobile home community. Residents say their mail is no longer delivered regularly.
