Lake Charles Memorial Volunteers Donate $100,000 to the Hospital Capital Contingency Fund

The Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, which includes more than 63 volunteers, has made a $100,000 donation to the Memorial Hospital Capital Contingency Fund. Bobbie Jefferson, Auxiliary president, Reta Kaspar, president-elect, Dorothy Bryant, treasurer, and Barbara Bourgeois, immediate past president, presented the check to Larry Graham, Memorial president and chief operating officer, during the Annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon.

"It is truly an honor to have such dedicated volunteers at Memorial Hospital," said Graham.  "They bring comfort to our patients and employees, and do a great job of making our facilities better for us all. We greatly appreciate not only their monetary contributions, but also their time and tremendous talents."

The funds raised by Memorial's Auxiliary were through proceeds from the gift shops at Memorial Hospital on Oak Park and Memorial Hospital for Women on West Gauthier and proceeds from sales of their handmade flower arrangements.

The funds will be put towards new medical equipment and other necessary upgrades and renovations throughout the hospital.

The Auxiliary also raises money through fundraisers such as jewelry and bake sales to provide three Aileen and Hazel Dyer scholarships for students at McNeese State University who plan to pursue careers in health care.

"We have a great team of volunteers," said Sherry Schofield, director of Volunteer Services.  "They work hard and succeed in making Memorial a warmer, more comfortable place for all of our patients and visitors, and their hard work is also able to help the hospital get the best and newest equipment available."
