LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) –LSU defeated Ole Miss 8-0 in a seven-inning game to advance to their third straight SEC Championship game.
The Tigers were led by sophomore pitcher Ben Alsup, who threw a one hit, complete game shut out. Alsup, in his second start, became the first to pitch a one hitter in SEC tournament history. Head coach Paul Mainieri said he had a good feeling about Alsup today.
"Ben was ready to take a big step forward in this, in this opportunity," said Mainieri. "I just thought he did a really marvelous job and I don't think it was a fluke quite frankly. I think we found ourselves a third starter."
Alsup stated, "It's a big confidence booster to know that I can go out there and perform that way against a good team like Ole Miss."
First baseman Blake Dean and second baseman Tyler Hanover collected three RBI apiece. Hanover also went 3-for-4 with a double, and Dean was 1-for-1 with a solo homer and two sacrifice-fly RBI.
LSU will face Alabama in the SEC Championship game Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
