LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC-TV) – The Lake Charles American Legion Post 551 held its first Memorial Day weekend wreath-laying ceremony at Veteran's Memorial Park Saturday.
The ceremony offered local vets and citizens the opportunity to pause, reflect and pay tribute to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
"We're doing this for all the fallen heroes from the military service who gave their lives," said Roy Weldon, a member of Lake Charles American Legion Post 551.
Commander of American Legion Post 551, Edward Hudson, also added, "We want to honor those fallen soldiers for that great sacrifice they made for this great country."
About two dozen people turned out for the event, which last about 30 minutes.
The veterans of American Legion Post 551 also plan on holding a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday starting at 9 A.M. with a continental breakfast at their post.
