LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A two-run home run by Steven Irvine lifted McNeese to a come-from-behind win over Southeastern in the first game of the 2010 Southland Conference baseball tournament.
The Cowboys beat the Lions, 8-7.
Irvine's home run came with two outs in the top of the ninth. The Cowboys trailed 7-6 at that point. Jace Peterson drew a two-out walk. Then Irvine hit the two run bomb in the next at bat.
Blake Ellender also homered for the Cowboys. Tyler Davis was the winning pitcher in relief for McNeese. Defense was also a big factor for MSU. The Pokes turned four double plays.
The Cowboys are now in the winners' bracket. They will now face the Lamar Cardinals in their next game. That one is set for Thursday, May 27th at 4pm. McNeese is 4-0 this season against Lamar.
