The following is a news release from the Louisiana State Police:

JENNINGS, LA - A Gueydan man and Jennings woman died Sunday afternoon as the result of a single vehicle crash in Jefferson Davis Parish near Jennings.

Gavin W. Crochet, 22, and Ashlyn Chaisson, 20, died when the vehicle they were passengers in crashed on I-10 near milepost 63.5.

A 2000 Pontiac Firebird, driven by Steven P. Rider, 31, of Jennings, was traveling west on the north I-10 service road. Rider failed to negotiate a right hand curve and entered a ditch. The vehicle rolled over several times and traveled across the I-10 westbound lanes of traffic until it came to rest in the median. Rider received minor injuries.

Chaisson received serious injuries as a result of the crash, and later died at the hospital as a result of her injuries.

Rider will be charged with a violation of the general speed law, negligent injuring, and negligent homicide. Alcohol and drug use is unknown at this time. Routine toxicology tests have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

An account has been set up to help with funeral expenses for Ashlyn Chaisson. You can donate at any Jeff Davis Bank location.
