Will LSU softball overlook McNeese?

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Sometimes you can be motivated by things other people say about you.

As McNeese State softball gets ready for their NCAA first round matchup against LSU, Cowgirls head coach Natalie Poole says she used some blogs to inspire her team.

"We're definitely mentally ready to go," Poole said.  "I've read a few blogs to them about people that think that we're not capable.  So a little extra incentive to push our girls to have them understand that sometimes people are underestimated and they're driven by that."

As for whether or not the Tigers might overlook the Cowgirls, McNeese State first baseman Heather Mosser says it's possible.

"I've done it too," Mosser said.  "I've overlooked teams I feel that we can just go out and take a game from them and they beat us.  Any given day, like I said, a team can go out and play great softball and take a game from them."

The Cowgirls and Tigers have both beaten each other during the regular season.  McNeese's loss to LSU came on March 31st.  MSU made three errors on their way to a 7-2 loss.  Two Cowgirl pitchers believe they were able to correct those mistakes.

"It showed us what we needed to work on for the next time we played them," Cowgirls pitcher Kayla Shepherd said.   "The second time we came around, it was a clean game.  We know how we can play them.  So going into that, I think we just look at the second game and forget about the first."

"We learned what we needed to work on and the next time we faced them, we did what we needed to do in the beginning and showed what we really could do," Cowgirls pitcher Meagan Bond said.

McNeese's win over LSU was a 3-0 victory on April 21st.

The Cowgirls and Tigers will play at 6pm on May 21st.  The game will be played at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge.
