LSP arrests illegal immigrant in Lafayette for sex crimes

The following is a news release from the Louisiana State Police:

LAFAYETTE, LA - On Monday night, Louisiana State Police Region 2 detectives arrested an illegal immigrant for three counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

Troopers received a complaint in April about an illegal immigrant, 23-year-old Jose M. Acuna-Cruz of Honduras.  The complaint alleged Cruz was engaging in sexual activities at an apartment in Lafayette with three juvenile females ranging in ages from 13 to 16 years old.  Troopers began working closely with Immigration Customs Enforcement, Lafayette Police Department, Crowley Police Department, and the Child Protection Office.  During their investigation, troopers were able to obtain evidence indicating Cruz had in fact engaged in sexual activity with the juveniles.

Troopers obtained a search warrant for Cruz' Lafayette apartment, as well as an arrest warrant for three counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile.  Cruz was located and arrested, without incident, in Crowley around midnight last night for the warrant.  He was transported to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center and booked for the warrant.

The case remains under investigation.  Additional charges are expected.  This case was part of Operation "Child Watch."  The mission of Operation "Child Watch" is to rescue children from the potential abuse of child predators who prey on the innocence of a child.
