LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - McNeese State softball came into the Southland Conference tournament as the #4 seed.
They played like the top seed on day one.
The Cowgirls got victories against #5 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and #1 Stephen F. Austin on their way to a 2-0 start. The SLC tournament is being held in San Marcos, TX.
Game one for MSU was highlighted by the pitching performance of Meagan Bond. The freshman gave up just six Islander hits and struck out four in the complete game shutout. Bond's overall season record is now 21-10. MSU won the game, 6-0.
As for game two, the Cowgirls got another great pitching performance. Junior Kayla Shepherd gave up just one run on four hits to defeat top-seeded Stephen F. Austin. The Cowgirls were victorious, 4-1.
Now McNeese will play again on May 14th. They will play #2 Texas State at 4pm.
