Tar balls showing up on Cameron coast - KPLC 7 News, Lake Charles, Louisiana

Tar balls showing up on Cameron coast

HOLLY BEACH, LA (KPLC) - Oil from the spill in the Gulf of Mexico is still far away, but folks in Cameron are on the lookout for the tell tale sign that oil is arriving.

Tar balls are oil that has been churned up by the sea and rolled into a ball shape.

Officials say they have had reports of these objects in the Holly Beach and Johnson Bayou areas, but it is doubtful that the tar balls are connected with the big spill.

The balls may be a hindrance, but officials say they are not a real danger to people along the coast.

If you spot any of the tar balls, you are asked to call the Office of Emergency Preparedness and Homeland Security in Cameron parish. The number is 775-7048.

More great weather this weekMore great weather this week

Tonight, skies will be clear and we will have little to no chance for rain. It will not be as cold tonight. Temperatures will still get down to the 40s for Southwest Louisiana, so we should not see any freezing temperatures. If you head out tonight, you will still need to grab a light jacket. As we go through this week, the weather will be nothing less than perfect! We will have lots of sunshine and little to no chance for rain. We are on a gradual warming trend.
