The following is a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:

Lake Charles, LA – On May 10, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office received information from the Office of Child Services regarding an 8 year old girl with bruises.  Detectives first questioned the mother, Sandy Q. Erny, 34, of Lake Charles.  After speaking to detectives, it was learned Erny contacted her husband, Nicholas W. Erny, 31, by phone and warned him detectives were going to contact him so he needed to leave the house.

When questioned by detectives, N. Erny confirmed he caused the bruises to the girl.  The investigation revealed S. Erny had knowledge of the incident and did nothing to protect the girl.

Both were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and each charged with 8 counts of cruelty to a juvenile.  S. Erny is also charged with obstruction of justice.

Judge David Ritchie set their bonds at $25,000 each.

CPSO Detective Patty Bailey is the lead investigator on this case.
