Military visits Jennings Elementary

By Brandon Troullier - bio | email

JENNINGS, LA (KPLC) - Students at Jennings Elementary School have played an intricate part in taking care of our military personnel by sending care packages to our troops in Afghanistan.  To show their appreciation, "a few good men" from the Navy decided to thank the children by spending the day with them.

Special service teacher Joann Molitor says, "the students have been waiting everyday and that now that the soldiers are here they are excited."

It is hard to tell who enjoyed the visit more - the men or the kids. After they interacted with the young minds by showing them their equipment, how to use it and even wear it, they took it to the field for a footrace.  A race that the students were given a head start in and they won, but in the troop's defense, they were wearing their combat boots. "Well the race was pretty hard, felt like I was running with bricks on my feet, " says Jordan Marcantel,  a construction electrician whose a native of Eunice and whose mom is Joann Molitor, the coordinator of the event.

Still in all, these students will never forget this day and neither will our "boys in uniform".
