Dump truck takes down utility poles in Sulphur

SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) - Authorities in Sulphur confirm that a dump truck traveling west on Highway 90 knocked down some utility poles causing an electrical outage on Monday just after noon.

Sulphur Police were dispatched to the scene just after 12:30 p.m. on Monday to the area of Post Oak and Highway 90 East.

The truck was reportedly being driven down Highway 90 westbound with the truck bed in an upright position. The bed struck power lines and pulled down several light poles.

Sulphur Police have blocked Highway 90 East from Beglis to Post Oak because of the downed utility poles.

Crews with Entergy confirm they are on the scene working to restore power to the area. Officials with Entergy say five poles and several spans of wire were knocked down. The expected restoration time is 5:00 p.m.

Police ask that you avoid this area until the work is complete.
