LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) – The Cowboys are now a win away from becoming the second SLC team to win a series over league leading Texas State, after taking game two 5-2.
In the victory the Cowboys turned the third triple play recorded in school history, while Jaden Dillon tossed seven innings to earn his seventh win of the season.
As Dillon improved his record he gave up no runs on five hits, walked six, and had no strikeouts.
The Cowboys first run of the game came in the bottom of the third when Matt Fontenot scored off a Blake Ellender RBI single.
In the fourth the pokes picked up three more runs. Steve Irvine tripled and scored on an error by the Texas State third baseman. Lee Orr later scored on a Seth Granger sac fly. The last run of the inning came in when Blake Ellender singled and Jordan Venable scored.
Lee Orr knocked in the Cowboys final run in the seventh after he doubled and Irvine scored.
The triple play was made in the eighth inning that went from Irvine to Fontenot to Bryn Thompson. The play was the first for McNeese since the 2004 season.
The pair will close out the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
