LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The United name with the Continental colors, together they will form the world's largest airline.
"Now it's on to the next step, which is, actually going through the legal process to affect an actual merger," said Heath Allen with the Lake Charles Regional Airport.
Allen said the legal merger should take place by the end of this year, and the operational merger will be complete by the end of 2012. Allen said Lake Charles will likely see some schedule changes, but no loss of flights.
"They are going to maintain all of their flights into Louisiana, and we were specifically named as keeping all of our flights in Lake Charles," said Allen.
Allen feels that the air travel industry has taken a beating over the years, and this merger is probably a move to eases the financial burden.
"The industry has been hit with one thing after another, and all of them have suffered financially. I think is just a move to make them stronger, and more competitive with other airlines," said Allen.
