LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - They never stopped fighting, and they were rewarded.
McNeese State (22-18 OVR, 11-10 CONF) scored seven runs in the top of the ninth inning to get a comeback win over the University of New Orleans, 14-13.
MSU hit two home runs in the ninth inning. Justin Beitzel hit a three-run homer and Jordan Venable hit a two-run shot to contribute to the rally.
The game-winning run came off of the bat of Steve Irvine. He was able to push a runner across via a fielder's choice.
McNeese has now won back-to-back games after dropping two of three against Stephen F. Austin in their last series.
The Privateers had plenty of momentum going into this one, considering they defeated the defending national champion LSU Tigers the night before. That win also snapped UNO's nine-game losing streak.
Terry Burrows' squad will be back in action on Friday, April 30th when they welcome SLC rival Lamar to Lake Charles. Then the Pokes will play the final two games of that series in Beaumont against the Cardinals on May 1st & 2nd.
