LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Louisiana Secretary of State Jay Dardenne made a trip to Calcasieu Parish on Monday to speak with young students about the importance of voting.

Although these young minds are middle school students, Dardenne wanted to instill the message in them early about being able to register to vote when they turn 17, and making their vote count once they turn 18.

After the assembly, 7 News was able to speak with Dardenne about his political aspirations and whether he was going to run for Lieutenant Governor. He said he loves his job as Secretary of State, but he wants to run for Lieutenant Governor and maybe someday, Governor.
