LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) – Swim Louisiana began Long Course season by hosting one of its first swim meets.
100 swimmers from Calcasieu Parish, Lafayette, and Texas competed at SPAR Recreation and Aquatic Center throughout the weekend. The large group represented some of the best swimmers ranging from elementary school to high school.
Swim Louisiana Coach, Andrew Antonetz stated, "It's really just a beginning of the season meet for us to just figure out where our kids are and let them get a feel for racing. Long Course season is where we're at now, and that's the length of the Olympics, so we're trying to adjust to that and get times from the kids."
"We have to go to the championship and we have to train for it so it's pretty fun," said Caleb Wyninger, member of Swim Louisiana.
Emily Williams, with Swim Louisiana stated, "It's kind of hard because you're competing against different people, but its fun to learn where you're at and see how fast you are."
Members of Swim Louisiana train five to six days a week for the majority of the year.
