LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The Third Circuit Court of Appeal informed the City of Lake Charles this week they are pursuing an alternate location for the new court building.
Now the court is looking at a location right across from the Capital One building on Lakeshore Drive.
The 3-acre site is bigger than the Sears Retail Property location the Court was looking at before.
The Mayor of Lake Charles, Randy Roach, said if the court moves to this location, it would still be a positive development for the downtown area.
"It's still a downtown location within a close proximity to the Ryan Street area," said Roach. "They felt like they needed to pursue that property because it gave them what they needed in terms of price and terms in flexibility."
The Lakeshore Drive location is not a done deal for the court.
Meanwhile there's still no word on what will happen with the old Sears automotive site or the Chamber building on Pujo Street. Mayor Roach says no decision will be made until plans are finalized for a new location for City Court.
The court's decision now allows the City of Lake Charles to use the sears retail property for other purposes.
The next step for the city is to find developers for the site.
