The following is a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:

Lake Charles, LA – On April 21, after receiving an anonymous tip regarding a registered sex offender living at a house on 3rd Avenue in Lake Charles. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputies went to the house and spoke to the homeowner who informed them Eric L. Wiggins, 45, had been living there for a few weeks.

While at the house, deputies noticed marijuana in plain view in the living room.  Deputies received permission to search the house and located more marijuana, along with rolling papers and several partially burnt cigarettes containing marijuana.  Wiggins told deputies the marijuana was his.

Wiggins was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with failure to register as a sex offender 2nd offense; possession of marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Brandi N. Bonin, 23, who also lives at the house was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on an active warrant for contempt of court and she was also charged with possession of marijuana.

Wiggins last registered with the CPSO Compliance and Awareness Unit (CAP Unit) when he lived at another address.  He had not contacted the CAP Unit with his new address on 3rd Ave.  Sex offenders are required within three days to notify the CAP Unit of their address change.

Wiggins was convicted of indecent behavior with juveniles in October 1998 in Iberia Parish.  He was also convicted of failure to register as a sex offender 1st offense November 2007 in Calcasieu Parish.

Judge Kent Savoie set Wiggins' bond at $51,000 and Bonin's at $1,500.
