UL-Lafayette football players face drug charges

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Louisiana-Lafayette football coach Rickey Bustle says four of his players have been suspended indefinitely after they were arrested on warrants for alleged cultivation of marijuana.

Quarterback Blaine Gautier, cornerback Rodney Gillis, linebacker Devon Lewis.Buchanan and strong safety Chris Richard were booked Monday into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

Capt. John Babin of the Lafayette Metro Narcotics Task Force said Tuesday the four players were arrested after authorities found eight small marijuana plants growing on the balcony of their apartment.

The Advertiser reports Gautier and Gillis would be redshirt sophomores next fall, while Lewis-Buchanan and Richard would be true juniors. It was not immediately known if the football players have attorneys.
