LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC-TV) – More than 15 tons of junk, everything from antifreeze to clothing…scrap metal to tires, was collected at the annual Trash Bash at the Lake Charles Civic Center.
The event, hosted by the City of Lake Charles and Team Green of Southwest Louisiana, is an opportunity for residents to get rid of hard-to-dispose-of-items
"Trash Bash is a very important event which contributes greatly to the environmental cleanliness of our community," said Lake Charles Mayor Randy Roach. "Citizens can get rid of unwanted items around their house and, at the same time, positively impact our environment by having the items properly disposed of. We encourage everyone with acceptable items to participate in this free, annual event."
All items donated are recycled.
About 400 vehicles filed through the Civic Center parking lot for the event.
Sponsors for the event also included Allied Waste Services, Billy Navarre Honda, Colt, Inc., CARC, Interstate Batteries, Lake Area Industry Alliance, Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company, Pumpelly Oil, Southern Scrap, Waste Management and the Salvation Army.
