The following is a press release from Louisiana State Police Troop I

ACADIA PARISH, LA - Today, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of the driver.

According to investigating troopers, on April 10, 2010, at about 6:52 a.m., a silver 1997 Toyota Avalon was traveling east on I-10 near milepost 76 and began to take the exit ramp.  For reasons unknown, the driver failed to negotiate the curve of the ramp and the vehicle struck the south side concrete wall of the overpass for LA 91.  The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner.

Toxicology samples were taken from the driver and the results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.   The name of the driver is being withheld until next of kin can be notified and the crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind all occupants of a motor vehicle that state law requires you to wear a seatbelt.  Wearing a seatbelt can greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes.
