Jobless claims increase

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - First-time claims for jobless benefits in Louisiana increased last week.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission says there were 4,210 initial claims for the week ending March 27. That's up from 3,797 the previous week.

For the comparable week ending March 28, 2009, there were 4,563 first-time claims.  Last week, those still without jobs claimed 58,259 additional weeks of unemployment compensation, down from the previous week's total of 58,815.

For the comparable week of 2009, there were 43,295 additional weeks of benefits claimed.
