LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Cold weather really affecting the production in crawfish. Businesses are selling crawfish as soon as they get them but they are running out quickly because there just isn't enough.
Brad Soileau, owner of JT's Seafood days "well we're way down on production, everything we get in every week we sell, but that doesn't mean a bunch because we're just not getting a lot of crawfish."
JT's currently selling their crawfish at $2.99/lb live and $3.50/lb boiled. Their prices can increase or decrease depending on what the big buyers feel they are worth.
But the weather does have a positive affect because when it rains, it causes the farmers not to have to manually water their ponds. With warm weather approaching, hopefully mud bugs will become more abundant in the Southwest.
