Beauregard gets ready for Saturday elections

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Jay Williamson, whose name will appear on the Beauregard election ballot for the Merryville Alderman race will not actually be in the race.

I spoke with him earlier today, and he said he has withdrawn because he works for the United States Post Office and they are not allowed to run in partisan elections.

Even without Williamson eligible, seven people remain for five Merryville Alderman spots.

One interesting fact about elections in Beauregard Parish, is that upon closer inspection of the city of DeRidder, it can be noticed that the tip reaches into Vernon Parish.

An anomaly that Brian Lestage, the Clerk of Court for Beauregard Parish talks about.

"In 1978 there was a resolution passed, an ordinance, that incorporated that portion of, a small portion, of what is known as Green Acres Subdivision, and a portion of those streets are in Vernon Parish," said Lestage.

There are benefits for the people in Vernon Parish being part of DeRidder.

"They will receive the services from the city services, that is water, electricity, utilities and those sorts of things," said Lestage.

Whether you are in Beauregard, or one of the few number of DeRidder residents in Vernon Parish, it is important for everyone to come out and vote.
