LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) –Teens who decide to have their babies are faced with issues of how to tell their parents, to planning for their lives after they have a child. New Life Counseling is one place that offers guidance.

"Teens currently, 75% of them are sexually active by the time they reach 19 to 20 years of age," stated Jeanne Lebato with New Life Counseling.

Out of the national 75%, 57% of them will have live births.

Lebato says many of local teens report 75% of their peers are sexually active. If a teen does get pregnant they are often faced with the reality of having to tell their parents.

"They do have fear of what their parents will think or will say," said Lebato.

The counseling service walks teen girls and boys through the process of telling their parents and even offer to sit down with them together.

Lebato stated, "The youngest we've had is 12 all the way up to 50 years of age."

Loretha Green, a client stated, "I was a single mother for, I want to say 10 years, and I just didn't see myself going through this all over again."

Green was able to get the support she needed before and after she had her son Jeremiah.

"When I was going through it, I was just kind of here for a pregnancy test," said Green. "I didn't realized they had all these other resources they could provide."

"We offer diapers, wipes, baby clothes, items to help them through whatever crisis they may be in," said Lebato.

They also offer assistance in finding a placement family should you give your child up for adoption.

All of their services are offered are free. If you need guidance you can call New Life Counseling at 474-7003.
