Entergy adds new station to Lake Charles.

From the desk of Sheila Pounders:

Lake Charles, La. – To help meet the energy needs of a growing Lake Charles, Entergy Gulf States Louisiana, L.L.C. is in the process of building a new substation in the southwestern part of the city.

The new substation is part of Entergy Gulf States Louisiana's on-going efforts to provide reliable power to the Lake Charles area.

"South Lake Charles is growing rapidly and adding this new substation is a way for us to proactively accommodate current and future growth," said Sheila Pounders, regional customer service manager for Entergy Gulf States Louisiana. "Our customers in the area might see trucks blocking road ways from time to time or see us working in their yards. Hopefully we can keep the inconvenience to a minimum as we work to make improvements to the electrical system in the area."

The new substation, named Casino due to its location, will be located off of Prien Lake Road between I-210 and Cagle Lane. While no customer outages are expected during construction of the new substation, customers could see employees in their yards replacing utility poles.

Work on the new substation and on surrounding power lines began in mid February and is expected to last through June. Work began at the existing Contraband Substation on the corner of Lake Street and Sale Road in February and has continued north on Lake Street to 18th Street. Work began on Prien Lake Road in late January.

"With the growth that south Lake Charles has seen in recent years, this new substation will be an important tool in our ability to meet the energy needs of the area in the years to come," said Renae Conley, president and chief executive officer of Entergy Gulf States Louisiana, L.L.C. "This project allows us to take proactive steps to better serve the future needs of Lake Charles."

Entergy's Louisiana utility companies serve more than one million customers through the operating companies Entergy Louisiana, LLC and Entergy Gulf States Louisiana, L.L.C. With operations in southern, central and northeastern Louisiana, the companies are part of Entergy Corporation's electric system serving 2.7 million customers in Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas.

Through the rest of today expect skies to remain partly cloudy.  Some of those clouds have gained enough energy from day time heating to produce a quick shower.  Any more that form through the rest of the afternoon will likely rain out quickly.  Unfortunately, this does not help our temperatures much as highs will get into the 90s and feels-like temperatures will be in the triple digits.  We do have a breeze between 10-15 mph helping to keep air flowing.
