Walter O. Moss Regional Medical Center wins awards at LSU Forum

The following is a news release from the LSU Health System.

Lake Charles The LSU Health Care Services Division (HCSD) presented awards to the staff of the Dr. Walter O. Moss Regional Medical Center (WOMRMC) for quality healthcare at the 13th annual LSU Health Care Effectiveness Forum.

WOMRMC received the Clinical Excellence in HIV Care Award by demonstrating superior outcomes on a bundle of HIV performance indicators.

Cindy Arabie, C-FNP, received the Chronic Heart Failure Clinical Lead Award for her leadership efforts on providing care to WOMRMC patients with chronic heart failure.

The annual forum is also an opportunity for hospitals to present hospital improvement projects.  Allison Hancock, RHIA, with WOMRMC, discussed "Solving the Injection and Infusion Confusion. "

She discussed the complexity of charging for injections versus infusions and the need to improve injection and infusion charge accuracy.  A key component of the solution was moving the responsibility of assigning these charges from the clinical staff to the coding staff.  Intensive training of two WOMRMC coders using an $80 online course has resulted in the successful resolution of the injection and infusion confusion.

WOMRMC has maintained an ongoing 100 percent accuracy rate for over one year, without the hiring of additional staff.
