The eighth annual "Make Your Heart Race" 5K and 1-mile Fun Run was be held on Saturday, February 13, at the Lake Charles Civic Center. This fun and healthy event was sponsored by the CHRISTUS St. Patrick Regional Heart Center, GiGi's Fitness Centers and KPLC-TV. The American Heart Association was presented with a check for $1500 from the proceeds of the race. Awards were given in the following 5K Categories:
- Top overall male and female winner: $500
- 2nd place overall male and female: $300
- 3rd place overall male and female: $200
- Top male and female in each age group: $75
- 2nd place male and female in each age group: $50
- 3rd place male and female in each age group: $25
The top male and female in the 1-Mile Fun Run received a trophy, and each Fun Run participant received a medal.
