LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - It was discovered that an unknown amount of counterfeit bills had been used at several businesses in Prien Lake Mall this past week.

The counterfeit bills are believed to be in the form of 100 dollar bills.

Debbie Seal, the Mall Manager for Prien Lake Mall, did release this statement regarding the counterfeit money:

"Prien Lake Mall management and security are working closely with the Lake Charles Police Department regarding the recent use of counterfeit money at our property. We do not take the use of counterfeit money lightly as it is not only unlawful, but also damaging to our retailers.

We are assisting investigating authorities by providing footage from the mall's CCTV cameras.

Mall management also immediately notified all retailers with a memo explaining the situation and how to detect counterfeit money."

KPLC will bring you more on this story as it unfolds.
