LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Regional banker MidSouth Bancorp Inc. saw its fourth-quarter earnings fall as it paid preferred stock dividends to the U.S. Treasury for money taken to encourage more consumer and business loans.
For the three months ending Dec. 31, Lafayette-based MidSouth earned $890,000, or 13 cents per share, down from $1.1 million, or 16 cents per share, a year ago.
The latest results included a $300,000 preferred dividend payment.
For 2009, MidSouth posted a profit of $4.6 million, or 51 cents per share, down from 2008's profit of $5.5 million, or 83 cents per share.
