City Transit Fare Increase to Take Effect February 1

The following is a news release from the City of Lake Charles.

The City of Lake Charles Transit Division reminds riders that the increase in Transit Fares will take effect February 1.   The new rates will be as follows:

    Full Fare: $1.00 (one way trip on any fixed route)
    Special Rates: .50 (requires proper identification and verification)
        Senior Citizen Pass:                 .50
        Disabled Citizen Pass               .25 (Rates unchanged)
        Student Rate                            .50
        Persons of Medicare Services   .50
        Children under 3 years old       No charge
        Transfers between routes        No charge

The purpose of the rate increase -- the first such increase since 1996 -- is to help defray Transit Division operational costs.  

The new fares were adopted by the City Council on December 2, 2009.

    Roscoe, the Crowley police K-9 officer who was shot and killed during an overnight shooting last week, was honored on Wednesday in a special procession.

    Roscoe, the Crowley police K-9 officer who was shot and killed during an overnight shooting last week, was honored on Wednesday in a special procession.

    His handler officer, Tate Thibodeaux, was hospitalized in the shooting.
