Deuce says he will retire
LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - It was fun while it lasted.
And it certainly provided the Saints a big boost before their showdown against the Arizona Cardinals in the divisional round of the NFC playoffs.
But now Deuce McAllister is officially retiring.
The 31-year-old confirmed the move to the Associated Press via text message.
In a surprise move the day before the Arizona game, McAllister was signed by the Saints. He was inactive for the game, but he was New Orleans' honorary captain and led the team out of the tunnel.
McAllister has not played in a game since 2008. The Saints drafted him back in 2001. He spent his entire career with New Orleans.
Deuce leaves pro football as the Saints all-time leading rusher. He also owns franchise records for total touchdowns and rushing touchdowns.
