NEW ORLEANS, LA (KPLC) – After dominating the defending NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals 45-14, the Saints now have a chance to become the new NFC Champion next week.
The first half was all they needed to solidify their place as a championship contender. The Saints bounced back quickly after Cardinals Tim Hightower scored on a 70 Yard run on the first play from scrimmage, scoring three unanswered touchdowns.
Drew Brees and Reggie Bush led the Saints offense. Brees threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns. Bush rushed for 84 yards and one touchdown. He also took a punt return back 83 yards for his second.
Five different Saints players scored on a Cardinals defense that was without defensive backs Antrel Rolle and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
The Saints Defense forced two turnovers. The first came off a fumble when Randall Gay stripped Cardinals Jerheme Urban, and Darren Sharper recovered. The next turnover would be costly.
Cardinals Kurt Warner had to leave the game briefly in the second quarter after he was intercepted by Will Smith. During the play Warner was blind sided by Bobby McCray's block.
One of the biggest highlights for the Saints was the return of Deuce McAllister. The Saints re-signed McAllister this week, and even though he was inactive for the game, he led the Saints onto the field.
Next Saturday the Saints will face either the Dallas Cowboys or the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship game.
