BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Initial claims for jobless benefits last week in Louisiana fell 12 percent below those of a year ago.
That's according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission, which recorded 6,033 first-time unemployment claims for the week ending Jan. 9. For the comparable week ending Jan. 10, 2009, there were 6,825 initial claims.
Two weeks ago, there were 3,618 claims - but that week was cut off by the holidays.
