Local efforts to help Haiti pick up steam

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Southwest Louisiana Residents continue to look for ways to help those in Haiti since the catastrophic earthquake which hit Tuesday.

At this point the American Red Cross has provided $10 million to support relief efforts in Haiti, where they estimate as many as three million people may be affected.  The best way to make a donation is to log onto redcross.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS. Donors can designate their gift to Haiti relief.

There will be a special collection at Catholic churches in the Diocese of Lake Charles this weekend.

And a local business man is urging community members to donate especially because of a local connection to a Catholic priest in Haiti whose mission is to educate children and provide them with medical care. Father Tom Hagan has visited St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lake Charles to seek support for his efforts in Haiti.  Local efforts to help will be updated at www.lakecharles.com

We'll have more on these efforts tonight on 7News Nightcast.
