Calling All Parade Lovers - Mardi Gras Parades Open for Entries

LAKE CHARLES — Mardi Gras of Southwest Louisiana is inviting the community to help them paint the town purple, green, gold and RED!

Entries are now being accepted for the Merchants' Parade, Children's Parade and the Red Hat Parade.
                
The Merchants' Parade is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. The Children's Parade will roll at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 14 and the Red Hat Parade will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

All three parades will roll from the Civic Center to Broad Street and then head south down Ryan Street to Sale Road. These parades are all open to the public to enter. The Red Hat Parade's only requirement is that a red hat be worn by riders.

The cost to enter the Merchants' and Children's Parades is $40 per float/vehicle, per parade. The cost to enter the Red Hat Parade is $25 per float or vehicle. Forms and entry fees must be received by Friday, Jan. 29.

    One local fraternity made sure some families in Southwest Louisiana had a fully cooked meal to enjoy for Christmas. "We have turkeys and hams, but it's enough food in the box to feed a family of eight," said  Mark Gallashaw, president of Kappa Alpha Psi's Lake Charles Alumni Chapter. Thirty-five boxes of cooked meals are getting ready to be delivered to families across Southwest Louisiana.

    The Lake Charles Police Department has arrested one person after a nearly 20-minute pursuit Saturday afternoon. LCPD received a call of a person shooting a firearm from a vehicle on the 1900 block of Prejean Drive in the afternoon, said LCPD Deputy Chief Mark Kraus. Police located the vehicle near Hwy 14. A 19-minute pursuit then ensued, and ended with a suspect arrested.
