Crowley man dies after oil platform fire

CAMERON PARISH, LA (KPLC) - Cameron Parish Sheriff's officials report that one man died and two others were injured because of an offshore platform fire early Wednesday morning.

Authorities received a call before 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning reporting a fire on the East Cameron 2 platform belonging to Apache, operated by Island Operators of Lafayette.

When officials arrived, three men were found in the water. Two of them - 40-year old Joseph Stone from American Fork, Utah and 29-year old Joel Portie from Jennings were pulled from the water. They were taken to South Cameron Hospital for treatment.

The third person pulled from the water was Frank Richard from Crowley. While he was being transported to the hospital, he reportedly stopped breathing on the boat. Richard was pronounced dead at South Cameron Hospital.

Richard had been working with the company that owned the offshore platform since February 2008.
