BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Initial claims for jobless benefits by the newly unemployed rose a tad last week in Louisiana.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission says that for the week ending Jan. 2, there were 3,618 first-time claims for unemployment payments. There were 3,568 the previous week. For the comparable week ending Jan. 3, 2009, there were 2,888 initial claims.
The number of additional benefit weeks claimed by those still without jobs rose a bit last week to 65,804 from 63,861 the previous week. For the comparable week a year ago, there were 35,697 continued weeks of benefits.
