Cold weather could cause ice on roads

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - It is already below freezing and it is only going to continue to drop. When you are on the road you need to be vigilant. Temperatures will be dropping into the teens over night and into the weekend.

"The biggest problem is going to be the wind chill. The wind chill will drop into the teens and the single digits across the area," said KPLC Meteorologist Wade Hampton.

With the rain the Lake area has experienced during the week, there could be a problem with ice on the roads.

"We are asking our motorist to take caution and avoid the areas that may be iced over," said Lake Charles City Administrator John Cardone.

"I think if people take the appropriate precautions, and stay indoors, and not risk being on the road, then they'll be fine," said Elijah Callaway.

"If I have to get out, I'm just going to stay on the surface streets. Hopefully it's all cleared up before I have to go to work," said Mark Henry.

If you do have to be somewhere, you might want to give yourself a little extra time to get there. The city of Lake Charles has crews out looking for water on the road, but incase they miss some, they are asking for your help.

"If they drive down a road and see an area that may be iced over, they can call the police department at 491-1311 or the public works department at 491-1308," said John Cardone.
